Dans un établissement recevant du public, le revêtement de sol doit respecter un classement de réaction au feu défini par le type et la catégorie de l'ERP. Les classements Bfl-s1, Cfl-s1 et Dfl-s1 couvrent des niveaux d'exigence décroissants, le suffixe s1 désignant la plus faible émission de fumée. In any building open to the public, a floor covering has to carry a reaction to fire classification, and that classification is what makes the room compliant. Under EN 13501-1, floorings are graded Bfl-s1, Cfl-s1 or Dfl-s1 in decreasing order of performance, with the s1 suffix marking the lowest smoke emission. Our SPARK range is certified Cfl-s1 and is supplied with its classification report, which is the document a fire safety inspector or a building control officer will ask to see.
Across Europe, national fire regulations differ but they all reference the same Euroclass system. Whether the building is a commercial gym in Belgium, a municipal sports hall in France, a hotel fitness room in Switzerland or a school in Luxembourg, the local authority checks the same thing: a classification report issued by a notified laboratory, naming the product, its thickness and the conditions under which the classification is valid. A supplier statement that a tile is fire resistant, without a report reference, is not usable in a compliance file.
Two points catch buyers out. First, the classification is tied to a thickness and to a laying method, so a report for a bonded 30 mm tile does not automatically cover a loose laid 15 mm tile. Second, it is tied to the substrate: our Cfl-s1 classification is valid over substrates classified A1 or A2-s1,d0 with a density of at least 1350 kg per cubic metre, which in practice means a concrete or screed base rather than a timber deck.
All three share the same 100 by 100 cm format and the same 1000 kg per cubic metre density. What changes is the depth, and with it the mass, the acoustic performance and the intensity of use the tile is designed for.

Testing was carried out by the Laboratoire National de Métrologie et d’Essais, a French national testing laboratory accredited to EN ISO 17025 and registered as notified body number 0071 with the European Commission. The classification is therefore recognised across the European Union, not only in France.

A copy of the classification report is issued with every order, so the file is complete on the day of handover rather than chased afterwards.
Fire classification is the compliance requirement; acoustics is usually the operational one. The 1000 kg per cubic metre density gives up to 25 dB of sound reduction on the 42 mm tile and 23 dB on the 25 and 30 mm versions, which is what protects neighbouring tenants and the rooms below in a mixed use building. The same density is what stops rack feet and machine frames from indenting the surface, and what absorbs the energy of dropped bumper plates rather than returning it to the bar.
Municipal and school sports halls, commercial fitness clubs, CrossFit boxes, hotel and resort fitness rooms, corporate wellbeing spaces and rehabilitation centres. Anywhere a fire safety commission or an insurer reviews the building file, the classification is what unlocks the sign off. In a private home gym the classification is not required, but the density and the acoustic performance are still the reason to choose the product.
The tiles are manufactured from recycled SBR rubber recovered from end of life car tyres, with a fine grain surface that keeps cleaning straightforward. The recycled content is a circular economy argument that carries weight in public tenders, where environmental award criteria are increasingly part of the scoring.
