Description
HARMONIA XL joins two twisted ladders at their centre through a hot-dip galvanised pivot axle, with X-pattern cables stabilising each end. The pivot lets the two halves rotate relative to each other, so the crossing responds to every step.
A module with a moving joint
Almost everything else in the collection is tensioned into a fixed geometry. HARMONIA XL is not: the central pivot is a mechanical joint, and the two twisted ladders it connects can turn against each other. A child stepping onto the first half changes the position of the second half before they reach it. Coordination, not strength, is what gets somebody across, and it is the module that produces the longest queue in a rope trail for exactly that reason.
- Two twisted ladders joined by a central pivot axle
- Pivot axle in hot-dip galvanised steel
- X-pattern stabilising cables at both ends
- Steel fixing clamps protected with chlorinated rubber paint
- Posts with galvanised and powder coated caps

Maintaining a moving component
A pivot is the one part of a rope trail with a genuine mechanical function, and it should be treated accordingly: free movement, secure retention and coating condition are recorded at each periodic inspection, in addition to the rope tension and cable checks that every module receives under the regime required by EN 1176.
Installation and surfacing
Two posts on 1.0 m reinforced concrete footings with heavy plant access, and impact attenuating surfacing to EN 1176-1 across the whole 5.3 x 9.6 m safety area, sized against the 2.85 m free height of fall.
Frequently asked questions
Does the pivot need lubrication?
It is inspected for free movement and secure attachment rather than serviced on a schedule. Components showing wear are replaced.
Is it too difficult for younger children?
It is certified from 5 years, but in practice younger users cross the first half and turn back. That is a normal and productive use of the module.
Where should it sit in a trail?
Towards the end. Placing the hardest module first tends to stop children progressing through the rest.
