TRAINER upper body twister, wheelchair accessible outdoor station

The TRAINER upper body twister is an outdoor fitness station that is used directly from a wheelchair, with no transfer required. It measures 85.7 x 47 x 202 cm, accepts users up to 150 kg and needs a safety zone of 386 x 347 cm. The user grips the two handles at chest height and rotates the upper body from side to side against the resistance of their own body mass. The movement is self-limiting, which makes it suitable for first-time users and for supervised rehabilitation sessions.

Specifying an accessible outdoor fitness area

An accessible station only works if the route to it works. Plan a firm, level approach surface across the whole safety zone, keep the 386 x 347 cm envelope free of kerbs, bollards and planting, and allow a turning circle beside the station so a chair can arrive and leave without reversing the full length of the path. The 202 cm overall height keeps the handles within reach from a seated position while leaving the frame visible from a distance.

Foundations are cast in concrete and the base plates are galvanised before painting, which is the part of the assembly that sits closest to standing water. The double polyester coat is specified for continuous outdoor exposure, so no seasonal repainting is expected; annual inspection is limited to checking fixings, handle grips and the condition of the rotating bearing.

Municipal projects usually combine two to six accessible stations with conventional units so that mixed-ability groups train together. Can the station be used without leaving the wheelchair?

Yes. The handles and the rotating axis are positioned at seated working height and the front of the frame is open, so the user rolls up to the unit and starts the movement. No transfer, no step and no handrail assistance are needed.

Is the price of 720 EUR excluding VAT for the complete station?

It covers the equipment as specified above, in one of the four standard colours. Groundworks, concrete foundations, safety surfacing, delivery and installation are quoted separately once the site plan is known.

Which standard applies to this equipment?

EN 16630:2015-06 covers permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment, including safety zones, entrapment and structural strength. Conformity has been tested and certified by TUV Rheinland. Playground surfacing standards EN 1176 and EN 1177 apply only where the station is installed inside a play area.
