Description
The TRAINER lumbar bench is the back extension station of the OutdoorFit range: a post-mounted module measuring 81 x 66 x 202 cm, weighing 20 kg on its own and 70 kg with its support pylon. It trains the spinal extensors through a controlled flexion and extension of the torso, inside a safety zone of 382 x 366 cm. Certified to EN 16630:2015 by TUV Rheinland.
The station that answers the most common complaint in the population
Low back pain is the reason most adults give for not exercising, and a weak posterior chain is one of its most treatable causes. A back extension bench is therefore the station on a municipal circuit with the widest public health return, and the one that draws the users a fitness area is often built for in the first place.
- Primary work: erector spinae and the full spinal extensor chain
- Secondary work: gluteals, hamstrings and the abdominal wall as antagonists
- Movement: controlled torso flexion and extension against body mass
- Difficulty rating: moderate, suitable for regular users rather than complete beginners
- Users above 140 cm in height, up to 150 kg

Siting a moderate-difficulty station
Circuit design is largely a question of difficulty distribution. A park circuit built entirely from easy stations is abandoned by regular users within months; one built from hard stations excludes the majority. A moderate station such as the lumbar bench is the bridge between the two, and it should sit where users can see it from the easy stations rather than at the far end of the route.
The module carries no frame of its own: it mounts on a support pylon or a load-bearing wall, neither of which is included in the 660 EUR excluding VAT price. That is what allows two or three OutdoorFit modules to share one column, cutting the number of foundations and the surfacing area on a compact site.
The steel is shot blasted and galvanised before the two polyester coats go on, so the ground-level section of the assembly is protected by zinc rather than by paint film alone. See the complete OutdoorFit single station range and the outdoor fitness trail layouts they build into.
Frequently asked questions
Is this station suitable for users with existing back pain?
It is rated moderate and is designed as a strengthening station, not a treatment. Municipal clients commissioning equipment for a rehabilitation or senior programme normally pair it with easier mobility stations and appropriate signage. Individual users with a diagnosed condition should take medical advice first.
What does the 70 kg total weight refer to?
20 kg is the exercise module; 50 kg is the support pylon, ordered separately. Delivery and handling are planned on the combined figure, but only the module is covered by the price shown.
Do we need a shock-absorbing surface underneath?
EN 16630 governs the equipment and its safety zone rather than mandating an impact-attenuating surface as EN 1177 does for playgrounds. In practice we specify surfacing according to the station mix and whether the fitness area adjoins a play area. It is drawn on the layout plan.
Send us the station list, the ground conditions and the age profile you are equipping for, and we will return a circuit layout with the difficulty distribution balanced and every module, pylon and foundation costed. Quotations are issued within 24 to 72 hours.
