Description
The Solid Rock outdoor leg extension is a plate loaded quadriceps machine built for permanent installation in the open air. It brings a movement normally confined to an indoor gym into parks, outdoor training areas and open access fitness spaces, with a seated position, a multi-position backrest and a guided path that isolates the quadriceps without asking anything of the user’s technique.
Loading is by olympic plates rather than a weight stack, which is the correct choice outdoors: there are no cables, pulleys or shrouded stacks to collect water and debris, and there is nothing that can be tampered with when the site is unsupervised. Each loading arm accepts up to four plates of 5 or 10 kg, so the resistance range covers a beginner working with a single pair of light plates through to a trained user. Plates are not supplied with the machine and are specified separately according to how the site is managed.
The frame is described by the manufacturer as a stainless steel construction for maximum durability, with a finish intended to withstand weather exposure and to be cleaned easily. The grade is not stated in the manufacturer documentation, so for coastal, chlorinated or heavily de-iced locations we recommend confirming the specification with us before ordering. Total machine weight is 175 kg, which contributes to stability once the unit is anchored.

Planning an outdoor strength area
A leg extension is rarely installed on its own. It works as part of a lower body group alongside a leg curl, and next to a pressing station such as an outdoor chest press or incline chest press from the same range, so that a user can complete a full session without leaving the area. Allow a clear circulation zone in front of the machine for the extension of the legs and behind it for plate handling, and plan a hard, free draining surface underneath rather than grass, which degrades under foot traffic. Anchoring must be into a concrete base sized for the machine, and the base design should be settled before the order is placed. Plate management is the other decision to make early: some operators keep the plates permanently attached under supervision, others store them in a locked unit and release them for sessions. We prepare a free implantation study covering base, surface and circulation from your site plan.
Frequently asked questions
Are the plates supplied with the machine?
No. The machine accepts standard olympic plates and these are quoted separately, which lets you match the load range and the security arrangement to your site.
What surface should be installed underneath?
A stable, free draining surface is required, and rubber safety tiles or a bound mineral surface are the usual choices for open access sites. The final specification depends on fall height and site use, and we confirm it in the implantation study.
How long does delivery take?
Equipment held in stock is despatched in 5 to 10 working days. Delivery covers France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg, and export is priced per project. Installation is quoted separately and a quotation is returned within 24 working hours.
