Description
Aquila is a destination in its own right. Several rope climbing units are linked by posts, suspended net modules, slides and climbing elements across a plan of 39.9 x 39.3 m, rising to 7.2 m. This is the scale at which a play structure stops being an amenity within a park and becomes the reason people travel to it.
What destination scale requires
- Several interconnected rope climbing units
- Numerous suspended net modules between the bearing posts
- Slides and climbing elements faced with HPL decorative panels
- A reserved zone of 44.7 x 44.0 m, close to 2,000 square metres
Projects of this size succeed or fail on three questions asked early: is the ground condition suitable for foundations at 1.0 m depth across the whole footprint, is there heavy plant access to every part of the working area, and has the impact surfacing been priced at the same time as the equipment. We work through all three before issuing a proposal.
Surfacing
The landing area must be laid with an impact-attenuating surface matched to the 2.85 m free height of fall and tested to EN 1177. Over an area approaching 2,000 square metres the choice between bonded rubber, tiles and certified loose fill has a very large budget consequence, and it also drives the long-term maintenance regime.
Materials
Hot-dip galvanised steel structure, nets in braided polyamide rope reinforced with a zinc-plated steel core, HPL decorative panels on the sliding elements.

Frequently asked questions
What lead time should we plan for?
A structure of this size is manufactured to order and installed in a sequenced programme rather than a single visit. Bring us in at feasibility stage so the programme, the groundworks and the surfacing can be coordinated from the start.
How is inspection handled on a structure this large?
The same three-tier regime applies, routine visual checks, periodic operational inspection and annual main inspection, but the volume of components makes a written inspection schedule essential. We supply the component register with the technical file.
Is a smaller version available?
Vulcepula, at 30.8 x 23.8 m, offers the same multi-unit concept at a smaller scale, and Sagitta at 24.1 x 21.2 m smaller again.
Talk to us at feasibility stage, before the budget is fixed, and we will model equipment, groundworks and surfacing together. Browse the combined rope play structures range or request a quote.
