Description
The Protype curved treadmill is a motorless running machine driven entirely by the user, with no electrical connection required. The runner sets the pace by moving forward or backward on the curved belt, so speed is unlimited and acceleration and deceleration are instantaneous, which is exactly what interval work needs.
Removing the motor changes the running mechanics. On a motorised belt the deck pulls the foot backwards; on a curved deck the athlete must drive the belt, which rewards a mid foot strike and a higher cadence and reproduces the natural stride pattern used by trained runners. That makes the machine a technique tool as much as a conditioning tool, and it is why coaches specify it for sprint intervals, for running form work and for conditioning circuits in cross training boxes.
Cushioning is handled by the Protype system, which absorbs impact without the dead feel that penalises curved decks. The console is a responsive TFT unit, self powered by the belt itself, showing speed, time, distance and pace and giving access to training programmes. Because nothing needs plugging in, the treadmill can be positioned anywhere on the floor, including outdoor terraces and pop up training areas where no socket exists.

Where a curved treadmill earns its place
A curved machine is not a replacement for a bank of motorised treadmills in a cardio room. It is a specialist station, usually one or two units, placed in the functional zone rather than in the cardio line. Three arguments drive the purchase. Energy: with no motor there is no electricity consumption and no cabling, which removes a cost line and frees the layout. Maintenance: fewer electronic components and no motor means the main wear items are the belt slats and bearings. Training quality: instantaneous acceleration lets a coach run true high intensity intervals without waiting for a belt to spin up, and the machine self limits, since a tired athlete simply slows down. Allow clearance behind the unit for mounting and dismounting, and a rubber gym flooring tile underneath for stability and noise.
Frequently asked questions
What are the dimensions and the weight?
Overall dimensions, machine weight and the clearance required around the unit are supplied with the layout study prepared for your room.
Does it need a power supply?
No. The treadmill and its console are powered by the movement of the belt, so no socket and no cabling are required.
Is it suitable for all members?
Curved decks require an active running technique. They suit trained users, athletes and supervised interval sessions better than unsupervised walking, which is best served by a motorised treadmill.
