Description
The Legendary Dragon is a monumental rope play structure tracing the silhouette of a dragon: a steel-tube spine and limbs dressed with a vast network of rope nets – 550 metres of 18 mm braided rope in all. Supplied and installed throughout France by Light In Fitness.
A 32-metre creature made of climbing
The Dragon’s anatomy is its architecture. The spine – steel tubes of 219 mm and 168.3 mm – arcs 32.2 m across the site, the limbs plant into C25/30 concrete foundations, and 550 m of braided rope stretch between them to form the flanks, back and neck that children actually climb. HPL decorative panels sharpen the creature’s features. It is the definition of a destination structure: children do not visit the playground that has a dragon, they visit the dragon.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a child take to traverse the Dragon?
The 32.2 m body is a continuous climbing route from tail to head, and children typically chain multiple traverses, inventing games along the spine. The elongated form also suits linear plots that square structures cannot use.
Why 550 metres of rope?
The net network is what turns a sculpture into a play structure: 550 m of 18 mm steel-reinforced braided rope create the climbable flanks and back across the creature’s full length, with the density needed for safe collective use.
What are the foundations?
C25/30 concrete foundations to 0.8 m depth under the spine and limbs, all defined on the layout plan produced during the free pre-order study.
