Description
The Bodytone 20 kg blue competition bumper plate is calibrated to the IWF standard, meaning a single diameter across the whole range, a thickness set by load and the official weightlifting colour code. Because the diameter never changes, the bar sits at the same height whatever weight is loaded, which is the condition for consistent technical work on the Olympic lifts. This is the reference load of training and competition bars and the standard step on a lifting platform. The list price is 292 EUR excluding VAT.

Platform equipment, drop management and layout
Competition bumper plates are specified for one reason above all others: repeatability. When every plate shares the same diameter, an athlete pulling from the floor meets the bar at the same height in every session, whether the bar is loaded to 40 kg or 140 kg. Training with mixed diameter plates changes the start position each time the load changes, which quietly corrupts technique and makes coaching cues inconsistent. The official colour code adds a second operational benefit, since a coach reads the load on a bar across the room without counting plates.
Drops are the design constraint. Bumper plates absorb the energy of a controlled release, but the floor beneath them decides whether that energy reaches the structure. Lifting platforms or high density rubber tiles rated for weightlifting are required under any bay where bars are dropped, and the plate stock should be sized so athletes are not tempted to load thin cast iron discs on the outside of a bumper set.
For inventory planning, hold this weight alongside the neighbouring 15 kg yellow and 25 kg red steps so a bar can be built in the increments a programme actually uses. Store plates vertically on a weight plate tree or a horizontal platform storage bar, sorted by weight, and keep the tree within a few steps of the platform so loading and stripping do not spill into circulation routes. Wipe plates down periodically and check that the inserts remain tight to the rubber body.
Frequently asked questions
What does the IWF calibration guarantee?
A constant diameter, a controlled rebound on release and the official colour code, which together deliver a consistent bar height and immediate visual reading of the load. These are the standards used on weightlifting platforms and in demanding boxes.
Are competition bumpers necessary for a general gym?
Not for every site. They pay for themselves where Olympic lifting is coached seriously. A general strength floor may be better served by training bumpers, and both can appear on the same quotation.
Can a full set be priced?
Yes. Light In Fitness assembles the complete plate inventory for a platform or a room, with quantity pricing, and returns a free quotation within 24 working hours.
