Description
The Etenon IRON HC is a professional round dumbbell with a hard chromed steel body, a corrosion-etched weight plate and stainless steel fixings. The range runs from 2.5 to 100 kg in 2.5 kg steps, with a constant 150 mm knurled handle throughout.
Why the marking is etched, not printed
On most entry and mid-range dumbbells the weight marking sits on a layer of paint, and paint chips at the edges. The set starts to look old long before it is worn out, and appearance is what triggers a club or a hotel to replace it. On the IRON HC the marking is etched into the metal, so there is nothing to chip. Combined with the hard chrome body, which resists scratching and rubbing, that is the durability argument for intensive daily use.
The fixings are the real failure point
On an assembled dumbbell the weakness is almost never the mass — it is the joint between handle and heads. Screws that corrode or work loose under repeated loading and perspiration create play, and play becomes a hazard. Stainless steel fixings resist corrosion and hold the assembly firm over time. It is the invisible detail that decides the real service life.
Storage density
Head diameter increases only as the load requires — 120 mm from 2.5 to 10 kg, 150 mm to 20 kg, 180 mm to 40 kg, 200 mm to 70 kg and 210 mm to 100 kg — and steel is denser than a rubber-encased equivalent at the same weight. More kilograms fit per linear metre of rack, and floor area is a recurring cost in any commercial facility.
Where a different dumbbell is the better answer
- Frequent heavy drops onto bare floor: metal on hard floor is loud and punishing for both. Choose rubber or urethane hexagonal dumbbells, or pair the IRON HC with a suitable rubber floor.
- Tight acquisition budget: the hard chrome, etched plate and stainless fixings are a premium that is not always a priority. Painted cast iron is the entry option.
- Training floor above offices, or critical noise limits: specify a rubber-encased dumbbell with acoustic underlay.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the handle diameter change at 95 kg?
Above 90 kg the handle steps up from 31 to 35 mm to carry the load. Below that the diameter and the 150 mm length are constant, so the grip feels the same as a user moves up through the range.
How are the heavier weights supplied?
From 2.5 to 50 kg each reference is a pair. From 55 to 100 kg the reference is a pack of two pairs, that is four dumbbells. Check which applies when comparing quotations.
What should be prepared around the rack?
Rubber flooring under and in front of the rack to protect both the floor and the head finish; a clear working strip in front of the rack for standing exercises; and acoustic underlay if the gym sits above occupied space.
